Nano Enclosure Empty Nano Enclosure

Mon Feb 05, 2024 6:44 am
I've decided to print the base portion on the enclosure with TPU95A material (black) and the top part with PLA-CF (matte black). It takes about 15 hours to print 6-up for the base and 8 hours for 6-up of the cover. If nothing goes wrong, I should have some enclosures available soon. I did find that the Wio gets a bit warmer and needed to be run at the standard 120 MHz MCU clock rate vs the 200 MHz overclock. There is a new firmware update related to this. The enclosure has a few changes since the last posts. Holes have been added to allow more cooling. A strap-area was added to the back of the enclosure. You can use this to route power cable / coax through, mounting, etc. I should have 6 enclosures ready by wednesday if nothing goes wrong.

The image of the 6-up print shows what the tree-support structures look like during printing for the base part. I'll post more pictures after the prints are complete.

Todd is this the low end enclosure for $25.00?

If not can you show a drawing of that and when will it be available?

Thanks

Yes. I'm obviously not doing this for the money. The enclosure sales will help offset the cost of materials and printer. There wasn't any interest in a higher temperature enclosure that I'm aware of. I did some testing. The TPU material will be fine in all sunlight/dashboard conditions. The top part (PLA-CF) will become very soft at 170F (worst summertime dashboard temps?) and could become deformed depending on the forces acting on it at the time. This enclosure should be fine except for the most exteme conditions.

For those interested in printing their own, or modification of the enclosure, the freecad design and STL files for the Nano enclosure are here:

Finally, the 12-up button print. This one only takes about 20 minutes including calibration. I still need to test these. The tolerances are somewhat tight.

Yes. Everything is looking good. I need to make a small change to the button. I plan on making the enclosure available tomorrow evening.

A small change was made to the button. I re-printed them with dry PLA-CF material sliced with 100% infill. They turned out great. They were all tested for fit. I've added the freecad and stl files for the button replacement to the github repo here: https://github.com/tvelliott/MicroP25RX_Wio/tree/main/enclosure

The enclosure is available here. I've started printing a second run of these. I also have more material on the way. No need to rush on buying. The website will let you backorder if this first run sells out.

One thing to note is that the button will be taped to the back of the enclosure with kapton tape. Don't lose it!

Press-fit onto a 2mm square shaft. Before assembling the enclosure, you should remove the blue button that came with the Wio. Then install the black replacement button after the enclosure is assembled.

It just pulls off on my Wio.

My new Wio device packaging also came with a spare blue button.

I just received the enclosure for the Nano. It took about 3 minutes to figure out how take it apart, install the Nano and close it back up. The Nano fits perfectly inside and I like the flexible plastic material that the back of the enclosure is made of. All of the access holes align perfectly with the WIO and Nano. Great job Todd!!

Thanks
Steve
